making a change

NPR logoSelling the car aside, December brought another big change for me: After four years (and many elections) with washingtonpost.com, I started a new job with the design team at NPR. The organization is making a big investment in its digital strategy and has made some smart hires, and there’s the potential to do a lot of good in a short amount of time.

In the short time I’ve been here, I’ve worked on an interactive map of Russian gas pipelines and the homepage and special section design for NPR’s coverage of the 2009 Inauguration.

I’d forgotten the general discombobulation that comes with starting a new job — forgetting names, not knowing who to talk to for what, not knowing the computer systems, etc. — but I’m slowly settling in and starting to have fun. I’m looking forward to what this year will bring — and how I can be a part of it.
