Vacation Recap: Sea-to-Sky Highway
In some ways, we keep repeating the same trip to Vancouver over and over again — just perfecting it a little more each time. We’ve visited the city enough times that we have our favorite places and things to do. And one of those is the Sea-to-Sky Highway.
British Columbia Highway 99 goes from Vancouver to Whistler. From just north of Vancouver to about Squamish, the road runs along Howe Sound and mountains seem to rest right atop the water. It’s quite possibly my favorite drive, rivaling even US Highway 101 and California’s Pacific Coast Highway.
Before we headed out, we picked up picnic fixings — meat, bread, berries — at the Granville Island Public Market. We stopped for dim sum at Hon’s (another local favorite) and Pocky at Konbiniya across the street, then headed out of town.
There are several B.C. provincial parks along the way. This time around, we stopped at Porteau Cove, then drove up a little further to Shannon Falls for a short hike (made slightly nervous by notices of recent cougar sightings). Then we circled back to Porteau Cove to watch the sunset.
One random discovery on this trip: There’s a Canadian Red Bull competitor called Beaver Buzz. And it tastes like Nestea.
