Fourth of July 2011
Rob and I had a pretty eventful Fourth of July this year. Our new neighborhood takes the holiday quite seriously, with a morning parade from the fire station to the community center, followed by hot dogs, ice cream and other treats. I don’t recall living anywhere that went to such great lengths at the neighborhood level, and there was a fun feeling of community.
We followed up by meeting my sister and a friend at Nationals Park to see the Chicago Cubs play the Washington Nationals. (Sadly, the Cubs lost in extra innings.) Then it was off to our friend Dari’s for grilling and fireworks-watching. From his rooftop, we could see not only the big D.C. fireworks display, but fireworks all along the horizon from other local municipalities (we guessed Falls Church, McLean, Rockville and Bethesda, among others).
