A Nuclear Powered World

Countries that rely on nuclear power to generate electricity

I produced an interactive map to go with today’s NPR Morning Edition story about nuclear power:

In the aftermath of the disaster at Japan’s Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant, many countries are reevaluating their nuclear programs. Below, a look at the countries currently using nuclear power (in blue) and those who hope to join the nuclear community (brown).

With this project, I finally updated my world interactive map template to a better projection (Miller cylindrical) that’s less squished / distorted in the upper/lowermost latitudes than the earlier one I’d been using. (I should note that I am in no way an authority on map projections. This one was recommended a while back by a couple cartographer colleagues.)
