Photo of the Day: Hello, Atlantic

My favorite time to go to the beach is in the offseason. No crowds. No traffic. Free parking. Quiet. Yes, it’s cold, but there’s a certain beauty in that.

Rob and I drove out to Rehoboth Beach, Del., yesterday to meet up with our friends Rachel and Dan. It had been a rainy weekend, and while the sky was still gray, the clouds took a turn for the dramatic — huge puffs of dark and light, filling the sky and hovering on the horizon.

After lunch and a few coffeeshop rounds of Bananagrams, we walked out on the beach. It was gray and windy, and the surf especially active.

Then, for about five minutes, the sun came out.
